  • Golden Turmeric Milk

    Golden Turmeric Milk

GOT GOLDEN TURMERIC MILK? We've just upgraded our delicious GOLDEN TURMERIC MILK & we can't get enough! We've added ORGANIC COCONUT OIL & BLACK PEPPER to our favourite beverage... Why? Turmeric is FAT-SOLUBLE & by consuming it with a good fat, such as organic coconut oil, you are better able to absorb turmeric's primary active component CURCUMIN (a powerful polyphenol antioxidant that also gives turmeric its golden colour... plus many of its amazing health benefits!) BLACK PEPPER greatly enhances curcumin's bioavailability due to the presence of PIPERINE (what gives black pepper its pungency). Not only is our Golden Turmeric Milk CREAMIER & MORE DELICIOUS than before, but our new additions work synergistically to make a better, more healthful beverage! Here's to golden moustaches!

  • Loco for Coconut Oil

    Coconut Oil

Why are we so crazy for coconut oil at Goodies & Grains? It’s one of the most useful & beneficial products to hit our shelves; that’s why! From the kitchen pantry to the bathroom cabinet, coconut oil is an everyday staple, a versatile must-have for every household.

Why is it so good? Coconut oil is an unique dietary oil. Most of the fats in our diet –whether from a plant or animal source – are long-chain fatty acids which can be taxing on the body to break down. Coconut oil, one the other hand, is made up predominately of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs); these digest easily & are more likely to be used as a source of fuel to produce energy (as opposed to being stored in fat cells). MCFAs also improve the absorption of other nutrients, such as B vitamins, calcium & magnesium. One of the most beneficial fatty acids present in coconut oil is called Lauric Acid (found in mother’s milk), which, in its converted form monolaurin, exhibits antiviral, antifungal & antimicrobial properties. With a plentiful source of Lauric Acid, the body is able to fight off various infections & overall immunity is boosted.

How to get coconut oil into your life:

…as a dietary supplement: add up to a tablespoon of coconut oil to your morning tea, coffee or herbal tisane. We recommend adding it to Jasmine green tea – the coconutty taste matches particularly well with the delicate fragrance of jasmine. If you enjoy a morning smoothie, add coconut oil to your favourite blend of fruits, veggies & superfoods & blitz in a high-speed blender.

…in the kitchen: coconut oil is an highly saturated oil, thus making it very stable & resistant to oxidation. It has a moderate smoking point of around 175®C & is great for cooking meals on the stovetop (used to grease pans or in baked goods, higher temperatures can be used as evaporation of water in the food keeps temperatures lower). Coconut oil is a champion ingredient in raw food recipes, and makes a good binder when making raw tart ‘dough’ or bliss balls (& will stop the ingredients from sticking to your fingers!) Coconut oil does solidify in the cooler weather, and liquidises in the warmer months. We suggest storing it in your pantry for optimal shelf life.

…for beauty: there are numerous uses for coconut oil in the bathroom; from hair conditioner & makeup remover to natural deodorant & toothpaste. Here are some links to some of our favourite recipes:

    Why Goodies’ coconut oil?

Our coconut oil is organic, cold-pressed, extra virgin – the good stuff! It has a slight & delicious coconut taste that we know you’ll love! While it is possible to find bleached & deodorized brands of coconut oil on the market, please note that these have usually undergone extensive processing. We find that initially hesitant customers, in time, come to crave the ‘coconutty’ taste of our quality oil; in fact, anything NOT cooked in it starts to taste strange! Goodies’ Coconut Oil comes in 3 great sizes; 200ml (great for first time users), 500ml (perfect for every day cooking) or 1 litre (for the junkies!)

  • How to Cook Quinoa

    WHAT IS QUINOA

Native to South America, this grain-like superfood is actually the seeds of a plant. It has a delicate, slightly nutty flavour and is low-fat, protein-rich and gluten free.

    HOW TO PREPARE IT

Cooking quinoa is similar to cooking rice. Use one part rinsed quinoa to two parts water. Simmer, covered, for 15 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed and the germ turns opaque and splits from the seed – it resembles little curls.
